The following activities require a qualified instructor, as they require guidance.

As some of the more challenging outdoor activities must be led by Qualified Instructors, we are affiliated with the team at Youthtown Outdoors, who can run these for you. They also have a range of their own activities available.

Youthtown is a nationally operated, not-for-profit organisation offering a whole ‘township’ of developmental activity in key communities across New Zealand for 5-18 year olds.

Youthtown’s Outdoor Mark accreditation means we can deliver our own outdoor programs and other organisations are happy to endorse us to deliver specialist programmes on their behalf.

Alternatively, Youthtown forms a ‘conduit’ or gateway to other organisations in the community who meet New Zealand’s Health and Safety regulations. On these occasions, our staff remain with the children, overseeing the activity, implementing The Youthtown Way.

Youthtown Outdoors are also happy to help plan and run all of the activities for your camp if you would prefer.

ARCHERY

  • ACTIVITY

    Do you want to shoot arrows like Katniss from the Hunger Games? Youthtown can teach you everything you need to know.  They also know that every group has different needs, so they are more than happy to discuss your exact requirements.

    There is plenty space available for Archery with several different options for where it can be set up.

    Ages 5 and up

  • SUPERVISION

    Supervision is compulsory

    Qualified Instructor is required, either through Youthtown or you can source your own instructor.

  • EQUIPMENT

    The equipment for this activity will need to be provided the instructors or the event organisers.

    Omaka Camp does not have this on site.

PADDLEBOARDING

  • ACTIVITY

    Are your ready to reduce some stress and enjoy the scenery? Paddleboarding is fun for all ages and athletic abilities. Let the Youthtown instructors show how to get your zen on whilst floating around Roto Kohatu.

    8 years plus

  • SUPERVISION

    Supervision is compulsory

    Qualified Instructor is required, either through Youthtown or you can source your own instructor.

  • EQUIPMENT

    The equipment for this activity will need to be provided the instructors or the event organisers.

    Omaka Camp does not have this on site.

KAYAKING

  • ACTIVITY

    Youth are challenged to kayak down the Otukaikino Stream individually or in teams without falling in.  A very popular activity and a great starting point for beginners.

    Ages 10 years plus

  • SUPERVISION

    Supervision is compulsory

    Qualified Instructor is required, either through Youthtown or you can source your own instructor.

  • EQUIPMENT

    The equipment for this activity will need to be provided the instructors or the event organisers.

Trying out the raft that was built

RAFT BUILDING

  • ACTIVITY

    Raft building is the perfect team building activity, whether you are a corporate looking for a staff team building day or a youth or school group. Youthtown instructors will help you build them on site at Omaka and then you will be able to take them over to Lake Roto Kohatu to test your building skills and see that your raft floats.

    Ages 8 year and up

SAILING

  • ACTIVITY

    KORE provides great options to get started in sailing or perhaps to get started again at Lake Roto Kohatu which is right next door to Omaka with  Courses and options for all ages with our fantastic coaches who have years of experience getting people started in sailing. The best start in sailing anywhere.
